How does Norges Bank Investment Management conduct Climate and Biodiversity Reporting?

1 min read

Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) is setting a new standard for climate, nature, and biodiversity reporting, showing how investors can better assess and manage environmental risks.

Using GIST Impact’s data, NBIM has provided key insights into how their portfolio interacts with critical environmental factors, including:

  • Mapping biodiversity risk – Identifying how their portfolio companies intersect with Key Biodiversity Areas, which are sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity.
  • Assessing water stress exposure – Pinpointing which technology sector assets in their portfolio are located in areas of high water demand or water stress, a growing challenge in sustainable resource management.
  • Breaking down impact intensity – Measuring their portfolio’s effect on natural capital, categorised across six key drivers and 11 sectors, providing investors with deeper visibility into environmental risks.

For years, scientists have emphasised that climate and nature are two sides of the same coin. Now, businesses and investors finally have the data-driven tools to measure, value, and actively manage their climate, nature, and biodiversity impacts, risks, and opportunities.
