Supporting impact transparency

As a leading provider of impact data and impact valuation, GIST Impact is proud to be among the first to grant public access to our proprietary value factors together with WifOR Institute.

GIST Impact supports a standardised global framework for evaluating externalities as part of measuring corporate and portfolio performance. This fully aligns with the work of leading institutional initiatives such as those of the Capitals Coalition, the Value Commission, the EU Transparent Project, the Value Balancing Alliance and the International Foundation for Valuing Impacts.

What is available

We are collaborating with WifOR Institute to provide a framework template, methodology summary and collection of coefficients (so-called value factors) for 25 countries.

Simplified methodology guidance is also provided to enable company executives and portfolio managers to use these factors to calculate their impacts on natural, human, social and produced capital.

What are value factors and why are they important?

Value factors are an essential element of all impact valuation approaches. They quantify the impact of an organisation’s activities on people and the planet in monetary terms, and provide essential context to inform decision-making.

Valuing impacts is moving to the mainstream: impact valuation is being used by leading companies and investors to assess materiality and set priorities that look beyond impacts only on shareholders’ financial capital.

With disclosure regulations and transition plans now requiring an understanding of a company’s positive and negative impacts, value factors are increasingly front and centre in decisions on sustainable investment.

It is therefore critical that value factors are accessible and credible, and the methodologies used to create and apply them are clear and transparent.
